Condolences from Lobby for Cyprus
On behalf of Lobby for Cyprus , an orgnisation made up mostly of refugees from the occupied part of Cyprus, one of whom is a hard working, highly respected and much loved, Kika Kattirtzi-Drakou, I send my condolences to her and her entire family on this sad day of the funeral of their beloved, son, brother and uncle, who has been missing since 1974, Georgios Drakos.
At Lobby for Cyprus, we fought hard in the UK for many years, for information to be made available on the fate and whereabouts of the Cypriot missing. Unfortunately Turkey, with the UK and the powerful nations of the world turning a blind eye, has done absolutely nothing to resolve and to bring to an end, this human tragedy.
Yiorgo, the cruelty of the invaders of our little island, has had no boundaries. Your life, this most precious gift accorded to us by our creator, was so brutally and callously taken away from you at such young age, 36 painful years ago, but you are now finally going to be laid to rest. We hope and pray that your family finds the strength to grief at last, but to carry on, with the knowledge that you have made the ultimate sacrifice of your life, for your beloved country. They are very proud of you. We have known and have worked with your sister for many, many years and she has taken your struggle everywhere she has been. Her and her sons, your nephews, have carried your youthful photograph with much pride and much sadness to almost every protest in the United Kingdom and wherever else they had the opportunity to do so. We know that you would be proud of them too and that your sole will be at peace, knowing full well that your sacrifice will never be forgotten and hopefully, not in vain.
Yiorgo, Rest in Peace
